Prevent The Need For Water Damage Restoration

Water water everywhere it’s flowing from the sink, and now it’s time to consider water damage restoration. Better than restoration would be prevention. Common sense gets washed away and the water sprays in.

In warmth of lazy summers, the windows are open, the air flows in, and, so will water. Water spraying through the window from a fire hose would be good timing, but in this situation, moving the sprinkler is wiser. Automatic sprinkling systems, a gardeners dream, need the spray heads facing away from accidentally open basement windows.

Don’t answer the phone when you are filling the tub for a soak. Water doesn’t wait for you to return, it comes looking. Also, allow for the natural law called “volume displacement” meaning the space a solid item might take if placed in a liquid. This could be the potatoes on your stove top, causing hot water to flow over the edge.

This theory means that a ladle could cause a full soup pot to overflow, or a large dog in a small washtub, though the splashing would probably cause greater displacement. Or, the reference may be to you, getting into the already too full bathtub. Puddles left unattended will seep into lovely hardwood floors and cause laminate to lift.

When the family comes for a fancy dinner the ordinary table cloth cannot protect the fine wood table from liquid spilled and left overnight. Take a trip to the clearance store to buy an inexpensive white or clear shower curtain. At home, smooth the plastic and cut it to approximately fit the table shape. To prevent it from sliding around use temporary putty (from a stationary store)in thin pieces. Put out the good cloth before the guests arrive.

Two-year-olds have admirable ingenuity. But, a proven method to prevent damage to walls and floors is to meet the young genius’s at the door before they bring in the hose, still running. This is particularly important if the foyer is made of historical hardwood floors. The professionals in water damage restoration have many stories.
